Betty Louise “Brownie” Gollner of Gaithersburg, Maryland passed away during the morning hours of April 17, 2024. She was 92 years old.
Betty was born in Youngtown Ohio on June 5, 1931. She was the third and last daughter of Raymond Strahley and Bessie Sahli Strahley. Betty graduated from South High School in 1949, went to business school, and was subsequently hired by U.S. Sheet and Tube.
Betty married Rudolph Gollner in May of 1956. She had her first child, Jill, in 1958 followed by Brad in 1961. Betty taught both of her children the value of integrity, loyalty, and compassion.
In 1966, Betty and Rudy moved to the Washington D.C Metro area where they resided for more than 30 years.
During the early years of her marriage, Betty worked at home raising her children. In the late 1970s, she worked for Metropolitan Bank as a Teller. She excelled at cooking and baking as well as designing and making her own clothing. Betty enjoyed baking and often made wedding and birthday cakes for family and friends.
Betty was a loving mother and loyal friend. She was always ready for a good joke or prank. Her dedication to her family was evident as she cared for each one of her sisters prior to their passing.
She couldn’t stand liver, fish, or laziness.
She loved her family, the beach and good wine. She also had a passion for dogs, they held a special place in her heart.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Rudy, sisters Lena and Arlene, brother Raymond and nephew Raymond Jr., niece Suzanne Myers.
She is survived by her daughter Jill, son Brad, sister-in-law Darlyne Strahley, Cousin Judi Hanna, nieces Kristen Lombard (Duane), Michele Planton, Janine Kemper, and nephews Michael, Bob, Dana, Tim, Bill, and Jeffrey (Heidi) Gollner, as well as niece Patty Sadosky (John).
Our hearts are broken. She is greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, family members request a donation be made to the American Brain Foundation.
Her children will welcome family and friends for a brief visitation at Fox Funeral Home 4700 Market St. Boardman, on Thursday April 25, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., a funeral service will follow visitation at Fox Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Bob Quaintance.
Interment ceremony to be held in The Chapel at Forest Lawn Cemetery located at 5400 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio, 44512.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
