There will be prayers at noon Monday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Gerald DeLucia at 12:30 P.M. at St. Charles Church, Youngstown, for Catherine Kennedy Nirschl, 86, of Poland, who passed away Wednesday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown surrounded by her family.
Catherine was born December 30, 1931 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Paul and Mary O’Shea Kennedy. She was a 1950 graduate of Ursuline High School a Trumbull Memorial Hospital Nursing School graduate in 1954. She worked as a nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital and Woodside Receiving Hospital until her retirement in 1993.
A faithful member of St. Charles Church, she enjoyed being a part of the Focus Cancer Group, Cardinal Ruritan Group, was a long-time member of the Ladies AOH, Queen of the Golden Rose #6 and was AOH Woman of the Year in 1993.
Catherine leaves to cherish her memory her husband Francis A. Nirschl, whom she married January 9, 1957; daughters Susanne (Allen) Nirschl-Cogar of Akron and Pam (John) Maikranz of Niagara Falls; and five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her son Joseph E. Nirschl, who passed away on January 8, 1996.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday April 15 at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman. Material tributes can be made in Catherine’s memory to the Breast Cancer Society.
