AUSTINTOWN – Jacques D. Knerr, 101, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018, in Austintown.
Jacques was born December 12, 1916 in Lancaster, PA, the son of William E. and Naomi Christian Knerr. He grew up in Altoona, PA and graduated from Altoona High School in 1934. He moved to Johnstown, PA in 1937 where he met his future wife Mabel G. Reighard. They were married on May 18,1940 and were together for a total of 78 years
He served with the Army in Europe during World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany and retired from Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown, PA. A member of Boardman United Methodist Church, Jacques was a devoted husband and father, and a gentleman in every way
Jacques is survived by his daughter Janet L. Gilley and her husband Jerry of Canfield, one niece, one great-niece and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mabel G. Knerr, brother Robert Knerr and sister Henrietta Fritz.
Jacques was a resident of Victoria House Assisted Living in Austintown and Austin Woods Skilled Nursing in Austintown, and the family would like to thank the staff and caregivers for their excellent care and service, and Crossroads Hospice for their heartfelt love and comfort.
