Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Fox Funeral Home, celebrated by the Very Rev. Gregory F. Fedor, VF for Jean Audrey Farwell, 90, who passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Briarfield Nursing Home at Ashley Circle after complications from a stroke.
Jean was born July 13, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio and was the daughter of Edward and Helen Porter. She was a graduate of South High School and attended Youngstown State University, studying business and social sciences. She was the loving mother of a daughter and two sons. She always wanted the best for her children and when she learned there was no available kindergarten for her sons, she helped to establish one in the Austintown area. As a young mother, she also became an entrepreneur and established swimming lessons for children and adults at her private home pool, carrying on the business for a number of years. Later, she became a distributer of Shaklee products, earning awards for her great salesmanship. She was a member of Solo Parents, the Saxon Club and the Eagles Club for many years. She was a gregarious person known for her friendliness to others. She was also interested in discussing people’s horoscopes with them. She was an avid reader and was always interested in learning.
Jean was predeceased by her brother, William (Bill) Porter of Eden New York and is survived by Bill’s wife Theresa; her sister, Eileen Porter Bees and her husband Fred of West Chester, Ohio; a daughter, Diane Jury Conklin and her husband Joseph Mitchell of Ramona, California; two sons Dean H. Farwell II and his wife Terry of Chesterfield, Missouri; and Edward Farwell of Boardman, Ohio; as well as 4 nieces and 6 nephews.
