Joanne (Farrell) Beeghly

Joanne Farrell Beeghly, 92, a long-time resident of Youngstown, passed away Friday, June 16, at Crosslands Retirement Community in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, where she had lived since 2012.

She was born in Youngstown, the only child of the late George R. Farrell and Delliah Miller Farrell. Mrs. Beeghly graduated from Rayen High School, spent an additional year at Edgewood Park School for Girls in New York, and then graduated from Vassar College.

In 1950, she married Youngstown resident, John D. Beeghly, who passed away in 2005. They raised their family in Liberty Township, attended Trinity United Methodist Church, were members of the Youngstown Country Club and the Youngstown Club, and enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world.

Mrs. Beeghly was devoted to raising her family, but found time to contribute to the Youngstown community and enjoyed an active social life. She was proud to be from Youngstown and served on many boards including the Visiting Nurse Association, the Butler institute of American Art, the Northside/Forum Hospital, Beeghly Oaks, Henry H. Stambaugh Auditorium, the American Red Cross, and the Arms Family Museum of Local History. She was active in the Junior League of Youngstown and the Youngstown Garden Club. Art, Music and the beauty of the natural world gave her much pleasure.

Mrs. Beeghly is survived by two sons, John Timothy of Charlottesville, VA and David Leon (Mary Alice) of Richmond, VA; four daughters, Sallie Beeghly Jones (David) of West Chester, PA; Jane Beeghly (Jon LaBranch) of Eugene, OR; Laura Beeghly, M.D., of Middleton, MA; and Elizabeth ”Betsy” Beeghly McPherson ( Andrew ) of Severna Park, MD;

Nine grandchildren who called her “Nana”; and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be on Monday, June 26 from 11am to 1pm, at the Fox Funeral Home 4700 Market St. Boardman. At 4 pm. that afternoon, a graveside service and interment will be held at Belmont Park Cemetery, 3346 Belmont Ave. Youngstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Butler Institute of American Art 524 Wick Avenue Youngstown or Fellows Riverside Gardens 123 Mckinley Avenue, Youngstown.
