John " Jack " P. Conroy

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. Msgr. Peter M. Polando at 10 A.M. Thursday  at the Cathedral of St. Columba for John P. ”Jack” Conroy,  88, of Boardman, who passed away peacefully Friday afternoon. 

Jack was born March 18, 1929 in Youngstown, a son of John M. and Agnes Gibbons Conroy.   He was a 1948 graduate of Ursuline and worked in the open hearth, blast furnace and railyard departments of Republic Steel. Jack was a devoted Catholic belonging to St. Columba and volunteered as an Altar server for 25 years.  He was a member of the United Steel Workers and the Knights of Columbus. An avid sports fan, he supported the Green Bay Packers, Boston Celtics and Notre Dame.  He was inducted into Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged as a corporal in1953.  His wife, the former Adla Hayek, whom he married Feb 13,1965, passed away Oct 14, 1997. 

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, John P. Conroy, Jr. of Fort Lauderdale and Dr. Thomas Conroy of Manhattan.  Besides his parents and wife, Jack is preceded in death by three sisters Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Conroy, Sally Reagan and Mary Jo O’Malley and his uncle Patrick Gibbons.
