There will be a Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial on Friday at 10AM at St. Maron Church, 1555 S. Meridian Road in Youngstown, with Chorbishop Michael Kail officiating, for Julia Koury Simon, 91, who passed away on Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Julia was born October 14th, 1927, in Youngstown, the daughter of John and Busma (Abbas) Koury, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a graduate of East High School, with the class of 1945, and a longtime member of St. Maron Church, and was a member of its St. Tobias Society.
Her husband James J. Simon, whom she married on February 11th, 1950, died March 6th, 1998, after 48 years of marriage.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her four children, Alex (Tina) Simon of Poland, Lori Palm, with whom she made her home in Liberty, Monica (Bob) Detoro of Canfield, and James (Cathy) Simon Jr. of Poland; 8 grandchildren, Jessica Simon (Carl Peterson III), Ashley Palm (Karim Greiss), Alex Simon Jr., Caroline (John) Zilly, Carl (Kristen) Palm, Marisa Simon, James Simon III, and Daniel Simon; 8 great-grandchildren, Ralphie Greiss, Jack Zilly, Franis Zilly, Hannah Peterson, Gloria Griess, Benjamin Palm, Carl Peterson IV, and Eleanor Palm; her sister-in-law Ann Simon Vross; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Victor, Joseph, and Simon Koury; and six sisters, Victoria, Mary, and Lourde Koury, Adele Karam, Elizabeth Hannah, and Margaret George.
