A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday March 1, 2019 at Holy Family Church in Poland, celebrated by Rev. Msgr. William J. Connell, for Margaret J. McGoogan, 102, who passed away peacefully Tuesday February 19 at Assumption Village Nursing Home.
Margaret was born July 7, 1916 in Mount Pleasant, Pa., the oldest of six children, daughter of James and Margaret Mahoning McCort.
During her childhood, after eight years of elementary education at St. Joseph Catholic School in Mount Pleasant, Pa., Peg went on to Hurst High School, where she met Bill McGoogan. The high school sweethearts married October 5, 1935.
Peg and Bill moved to Youngstown in 1948 and then purchased a Roto- Rooter Business that successfully served the Youngstown- Warren area, her husband died suddenly December 30, 1969 and Peg ran the business for 16 years until her retiring in 1986.
Peg was very active in her days, loved to entertain, enjoyed golfing and she was a member of Fonderlac Country Club and Friday Night Golf League at Mill Creek.
She was also a member of Southwestern run card club and 4x4 club of Youngstown.
Peg leaves to cherish her memory her sisters Mary Lou “Sis” Grosser of Mount Pleasant, Pa., and Nora Marie “Nore” Doubles of Bowling Green, Ky.
Although Peg and Bill were never blessed with children, she was affectionately known as “aunt” to 14 Nieces and Nephews.
Her Niece Sharon Krichbaum and her husband Judge Scott Krichbaum, has been very dedicated to her aunt’s care and concern for many years.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Daniel “Bud” McCort and her sisters Kathleen McCort and Virginia “Gin” Bompiani.
Peg’s family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers that have loved and taken outstanding care of Margaret.
Family and friends may call from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday morning at Holy Family Church 2729 Center Rd. Poland, Interment will follow mass at Calvary Cemetery.
