There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM on Saturday September 22 at St. Dominic’s Church, celebrated by the Rev. Patrick Manning, for Mary Jane Lyden, 80, who passed away Saturday September 15 at Briarfield Manor in Austintown.
Mary Jane was born September 3, 1938 in Youngstown, the eldest daughter of John Daniel and Elizaberh Jane O'Neil Lyden, and was a lifelong area resident.
She graduated from St. Edward’s School, Ursuline High School (1956) and Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (1960), where she majored in French, Latin and English. Mary Jane also studied at Laval University in Quebec, Canada, The Sorbonne in Paris, France, and Akron University.
Mary Jane taught French, Latin and English at West Junior High School, Liberty Middle School and Rayen High School. She also taught CCD at St. Edward Parish, was a Docent for The Butler Art Institute and was treasurer of the Youngstown French Club.
She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Ann Hardin of Willowick, OH and Mary Louise Hemsworth of Burr Ridge, IL; and one brother, Daniel Lyden Sr. of Boardman, along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Besides her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Lyden and a brother, Michael Vincent Lyden, sister -in-law Ginny Lyden
Friends may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, September 21 at Fox Funeral Home 4700 Market St. Boardman and from 9:00 to 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Dominic’s Church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery will be private.
