William " Bill" Elmo

There will be prayers at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday at The Fox Funeral Home, followed by a 10 a.m. Resurrection Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica for William “Bill” Elmo, 84, who passed away Friday evening at home, surrounded by his family.

Bill was born on July 21, 1932 in Youngstown, a son of Anthony J. and Rose M. Carissimo Elmo, and was a lifelong area resident.

He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School with the class of 1951 and attended Youngstown College. He was a veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army during The Korean War. He worked at Elmo Tire Service, his family’s gas, front-end alignment, and tire business at 3688 Loveland Road beginning in 1943. He was hired by the Boardman Fire Department in 1963 and retired in 1988 after 25 years of service. He worked at Elmo Tire Service for 45 years.

Bill attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica with his family. Family was so very important to him. He enjoyed going out to breakfast with them every Sunday and attending countless picnics and parties with those he loved. He loved to smile, laugh, joke around and the joy of conversation. He made others feel welcome and comfortable when they were with him. He loved to golf and was a faithful fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Angela Pascale, whom he married on June 2, 1956 at St. Columba Cathedral. They celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage. He will also be missed by his son, Phillip, of Columbus, daughter-in-law Michele and grandchildren, Angela and Dominic.

He also leaves a sister, Joan Peterman of Denver, a stepmother, Hilda Elmo of Nokomis, Florida, a stepbrother, Gary Howland, also of Nokomis, his brother-in-law, Al Pascale, and sisters-in-law, Claira Pascale and JoAnn Elmo, plus many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Anthony “Sonny” Elmo Jr.

Bill’s family would like to thank everyone at Hospice of the Valley for their excellent care and compassion, and for sharing lots of laughs with him as he loved to laugh.
