Obituary

Anne "Annie" Irene Gorant, 80 BOARDMAN -- Anne "Annie" Irene Gorant passed away February 8, 2009 at Hampton Woods Nursing Center in Poland. Annie was born in Youngstown on July 9, 1928, the daughter of Mary and Constantine Gorant. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Charles, Helen and Samuel; and her niece, Marianne Gorant. A graduate of Rayen High School and Youngstown State University, Annie worked her entire adult life at Gorant Candies, Inc., which was founded by her brothers Charles and Samuel. A longtime Boardman resident, Annie was a member of St. John Greek Orthodox Church and the Philoptocos Society. She wintered in Marco Island, Florida. Although Annie never married, she was surrounded by family and friends at all times. Annie never met a person who did not become her friend. She cared for her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children and extended that love and care to her great-niece and nephews. With her wonderfully upbeat disposition, Annie always had a smile and a helping hand for all. She enjoyed travel, her pets, and her time on Marco Island, where she delighted in walking the beach and visiting with neighbors. Her death is a great loss to all who knew her and a great gift to God. Annie will be remembered by all for her warmth, love and generosity. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Cleo and Elaine Gorant; brother-in-law, George Pulakos; nieces and nephews, Dean Pulakos (Kathy), Denise Gorant Gliwa (Kevin), Connie Gorant Fisher (Robert) and Samuel Gorant (Kristin); and her great-niece and nephews who loved her as a grandmother, Catie and Charlie Gliwa, Sam Fisher and Michael Pulakos. Annie's family expresses their love and thanks to Yolanta Juchno, who cared for Annie like a dear friend and mother, and to all the staff at Hampton Woods Nursing Center who grew to love and appreciate Annie's spirit, laughter and good nature. Friends may call Friday, February 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market Street, Youngstown. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14 at St. John Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Avenue, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
