BOARDMAN- Anthony "Sonny" J. Elmo Jr.,86 There will be prayers at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home followed by a 10 a.m. Resurrection Mass at St. Dominic Church for Anthony "Sonny" Elmo Jr., 86 of Boardman who passed away Sunday afternoon at Hospice House surrounded by his family. Sonny was born July 1, 1930 in Youngstown, a son of Anthony J. and Rose M. Carissimo Elmo and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School with the Class of 1949 and attended Youngstown College. He was a veteran who served his country in the United States Army during the Korean war. He worked in his family's gas, front-end alignments, and tire business at 3688 Loveland Rd. from 1941 – 1956; 1956 - 2013 owned and operated Elmo Tire Service, Inc. retiring in 2013. Sonny attended morning mass daily and was a member of several local parishes; St. Dominic Church, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, St. Charles Borromeo Church, St. Nicholas Church, and Sacred Heart Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #3144. Sonny always smiled, laughed, and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed the art of conversation and making others feel welcome and comfortable when you were with him. Sonny's favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family. There is Shakespeare Quote: "A coward dies many deaths, a hero dies but one." Words to sum up Sonny's life: God has truly blessed you! You are our HERO! He will be greatly missed by his wife Jo-Ann Cecilia Savino whom he married on May 1, 1954 just celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary. He will also be missed by his four children, Patricia (Wayne) Bartholomew of Canfield; Anthony (Susan) Elmo of Canfield, John Elmo of Orlando, Florida, Kathleen (John) Carlson of Boardman; his six grandchildren, Anthony "T.J." Elmo, of Boardman, Kristy (Daniel) Smieszek of Hilliard, Wayne A. Bartholomew, II of Canfield, Jason A. Bartholomew, I of Canfield, Katrina (Anthony) Cocca of Poland, John Carlson, Jr. of Boardman; two step grandchildren, Katie Nail of Boardman and Jessica Nail of Canfield; three great grandchildren, Gianna and Enzo Smeiszek, of Hilliard, Francesca Cocca of Poland and a step-great grandson Christopher Fisher of Boardman. He also leaves a brother William (Angela) Elmo of Boardman; a sister Joan Peterman of Denver, Colorado; a step-mother Hilda Elmo of Nokomis, Florida; a step brother Gary Howland also of Nokomis, Florida; two daughters-in-law Karen Hickey of Salem and Robin Elmo of Boardman; and Ticia - his joy! (Peekapoo Dog). Sonny was preceded by his parents. Sonny's family would like to thank everyone at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown, Vibra Hospital, Boardman, and Hospice of the Valley, Poland for treating Sonny with respect and for sharing lots of laughs with him – he loved to laugh. Also, thank you to Sonny's many loyal customers at Elmo Tire Service, Inc. He was proud to provide the best service and treat his customers with honesty, fairness, and respect.
