Anthony S.
"Papa" Sammartino
Sep 16, 1961 — Dec 24, 2015
Anthony S. "PaPa" Sammartino Jr., 54 YOUNGSTOWN - There will be funeral services held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church, officiated by the Rev. Martin Celuch, for Anthony S. "PaPa" Sammartino Jr., 54, who passed away peacefully Christmas Eve, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family. "Tony" was born Sept. 16, 1961, to the late Anthony and Adele (Minear) Sammartino Sr. His brother, Richard (Carrie) Sammartino, and his sister, Donna Lynch, both reside in the Youngstown area. Shortly after graduating from Chaney High school, he began his career at the Youngstown Water Department as a laborer and retired 32 years later as an engineer aid. He enjoyed watching his two favorite football teams, the Ohio State Buckeyes and his beloved Minnesota Vikings. He participated in IDPA tournaments, and he loved spending time in Hocking Hills and taking numerous cruises. But his most memorable trip was to Disney with the grandkids. What brought him the most joy, pride, love, and sometimes frustration, were his two beautiful daughters, Kathrine (Matthew) Dermotta and Angela (Erik) Krauss. Then he became "PaPa" to his grandchildren, Mia and Milania Dermotta, and his life was complete. He also leaves his best friend, cheerleader, and wife, Jacquelyn (Carabine) Sammartino, whom he married 12 years ago. His life may have been taken too soon, but he will be watching and waiting patiently to reunite with everyone again. Tony's family wishes to thank Dr. Garg and his wonderful staff at the Blood and Cancer Center, for the gift of time. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home and Thursday from 9 to 9:50 a.m., prior to Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church, 613 N. Lakeview Ave. in Youngstown. In lieu of flowers, please give to his favorite charity, St. Jude, or Hospice of the Valley.
