Anthony James Pelini, 85 BOARDMAN - Services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Fox Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Church for Anthony James Pelini, 85, of Forestridge Drive, who died at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Akron City Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Pelini was born January 23, 1923 in Youngstown, a son of Xaviero (Sam) and Nancy (Orsini) Pelini. After graduating from Rayen High School in 1940, he enlisted in the United States Army to fight in World War II and was honored with both a Purple Heart and a Meritorious Service Medal for his valor during his time in Europe. Upon his return, he attended The Ohio State University and worked for Kraft Foods before taking a position with A.H. Robins pharmaceutical company that he kept until his retirement in 1991. After his retirement, he spent much of his time watching and supporting his children, their spouses and his grandchildren in their various sporting and other activities. Mr. Pelini was a parishioner of St. Dominic Church. Mr. Pelini is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Catherine (Ryan), whom he married October 22, 1955. He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Ann Pelini and Amelia ("Millie") (Herman) Orlando. He was a loving father to three daughters, Nancy Ann Pelini of Boardman, Mary Catherine (Tim) Grillo of Upper Arlington, and Anne Marie (Kirk) Gibbs of Boardman; and five sons, Vincent Anthony (Dianne) of Canfield, John Anthony (Cyndi) of Rittman, Michael Anthony (Patti) of Fairlawn, Carl Anthony (Kelley) of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Mark Anthony ("Bo") (Mary Pat) also of Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a loving brother to two sisters, Irma Mary Pelini and Mary Isabelle French, both of Boardman; and a brother, Carl Francis Pelini of East Liverpool; and 26 grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Roger Chaffee and all the staff at Akron City Hospital. Friends may call [on Friday] from 4 until 8 at the funeral home. The Holy Rosary will be led by Father James Sullivan at 7:30 pm, all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Dominic's Catholic Church , 77 E. Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44507, in memory of Mr. Pelini.
