Atty. JOHN J. DIXON, 65 CAMPBELL - There will be prayers at 9:30 a.m. Monday, at the Fox Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic's Church for John J. Dixon, 65, who went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2014. John was born July 3, 1948, in Youngstown, a son of Norman and Margaret (McFarland) Dixon. John was a Criminal Defense Attorney for 38 years, practicing in the Youngstown area. John attended St. Dominic's grammar school before graduating from Cardinal Mooney in 1966. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame and made the Deans List in both 1969 and 1970. He continued his education at the Ohio State University College of Medicine where he finished first in his class. Afterwards, John went on to graduate law school at the University of Miami, School of Law in Florida. Upon returning to Youngstown, he worked as an Assistant Mahoning County Prosecutor until becoming part of the Associate Staff Counsel of the Mahoning-Trumbull Special Prosecuting Unit in 1976. John specialized in criminal law, with special interest in civil litigation, labor law, medical malpractice, personal injury and contract law. He was one of the Campbell Municipal Court's Acting Judges appointed by the Court to act in all capacities of a municipal judge. John was a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Mahoning County Bar Association and the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers "OACDL." John was a larger than life personality, with cigars and sunglasses in tow wherever he went. He was an extremely good-hearted man who always discovered the positives in everyone and was beloved by all he met. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, then you might have referred to John as Bud, Mel or JJD. John had many passions in life including golfing, snow skiing, walking his dogs in the park, running, swimming, traveling and simply spending time with his grandchildren. He was a diehard Cleveland Browns fan, Cleveland Indians fan,Notre Dame fan and an Ohio State Buckeye fan. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his only son, John Conor (Jennifer) Dixon of Broomfield Colo.; and two daughters through marriage, Mimi (Marc) Moschella of Youngstown and Alicia Williams of Boardman. John cherished his grandchildren, John Braeden, Cohen, Myla, Dwaune, Kiley and Tavia. He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddog Dixie. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home. The family would request that in lieu of flowers, any monetary donations be made to his family for the benefit of his grandchildren's college fund.
