Obituary

.Bess Polas Sullivan Scott, 93, entered into eternal life on Friday November 25, at St. Elizabeth Hospital In Boardman surrounded by her family. Bess was born August 15, 1923 in Youngstown, s daughter of Constantine Petros and Eleni Pruemades Petropoulos , and had been a lifelong area resident. She was very proud of her Greek heritage. Her family was the third Greek family to emigrate and reside in Youngstown, and first Greek family of Arcadia, Greece descent to live in Youngstown. Bess was the seventh of eight Siblings in Birth order, Peter, Georgia, George, Tula, Paul, Irene and Angela. Bess valued education greatly. She was a South High School Graduate in 1941, Youngstown State University Graduate in 1972. She graduated with her son at the same Commencement Ceremony from YSU. She retired from U.S. Steel after 35 years of service, thereafter she became a licensed social worker for the Rehabilitation Division of the Industrial Commission of Ohio. During intermittent periods of unemployment due to labor strikes or layoffs, she became a licensed real estate salesperson and broker. Bess was a member of the Austintown Historical Society, a lifetime member of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church, and St. John's Seniors past president. She was a member of the church choir for over 25 years, she was a lifetime member of the St. John's Philoptochos society and the Pan-Arcadian Society # 9. Bess was a Trustee at Belmont Park Cemetery Board. She will be sadly missed by her son Attorney James T. ( Atty. Christine A ) Sullivan of Columbus and her granddaughters Karen A. and Laura E. Sullivan. Her two Nephews Robert and George and five Nieces Dorothy, Patricia, Anita , Constance and Susan. She was affectionately and lovingly considered a " second mother " by her nieces and nephews upon the death of their own parents. Bess was preceded in death by her parents and her husband James T. Sullivan, Sr. whom she married in 1949 and who passed away in 1955, as well as by her second husband Robert D. Scott whom she married in 1962, he passed away in 1963. She was also preceded in death by her seven siblings whom she was a loving and giving caregiver to prior to their deaths. Family and friends may call from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fox Funeral Home. At 7 p.m. a Trisagion service will take place. A Funeral service will take place at St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday November 29, 2016 celebrated by Fr. Tom Constantine. Prior to service friends may call in the church from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
