Betty Goodwin,85 WESTERVILLE,OHIO Services will be 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman, and 11 a.m. in Saint Charles Church for Betty Goodwin, who died Monday morning at Village at Westerville Retirement Center. Mrs. Goodwin was born August 11,1920, in Youngstown, a daughter of Peter and Mary Lakaj Skica and was a lifelong area resident until recently. She moved to the Columbus area 6 months ago to be closer to her family. She was a 1938 graduate of South High School. She was a beautician for several years as she awaited the return of her husband from duty during WWII. With the start of her family she left the work force, but she lovingly shared her hair styling talents with family and close friends in her home. She was a past owner of the South Way Bowling Lanes on South Ave. and was active in many bowling leagues over the years. She was very proud of her Polish Heritage for her father was instrumental in establishing the Youngstown Krakusy Hall where she was also active. She was also involved in the Polish Arts Club, the Polish National Alliance, and the Polish Vets-Woman's Auxiliary. She was a member of Saint Charles Church for over 50 years being active as an Eucharistic minister and in various organizations. For years Betty gave generously of her time in performing therapeutic services to others. Those who knew Betty remember her grace, her giving nature, a cute sense of humor, her renowned cooking skills, and her love of life as she enjoyed having a good time with family and friends. Her husband, Fred J. Goodwin, whom she married on January 14, 1942, died August 7, 1999. She leaves three daughters, Marsha(Paul)Mitchell of Westerville, OH, Paula(Michael)Burke of Hurricane, WV, Janice Goodwin (Dennis Moore) of Xenia, OH: and six grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Skica and a sister, Gertrude Davis. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Fox Funeral Home.
