Obituary

Betty V. Harris 95, wife and mother, charter member of Christ Church Presbyterian, and World War II veteran, passed away Monday evening at Shepard of the Valley in Boardman, following a short Illness.

She was born June 18, 1921, to the late Frank and Sophie Haenny Steele. Betty graduated from South High School in Youngstown, class of 1939, and then attended William and Mary College. After which she was trained at Peters Comptometer school and was employed by Truscon Steel in the accounting department until entering the Navy. She served in WWII as a Navy W.A.V.E. and was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia, earning the rank of SK – 1st Class, and continued to belong to W.A.V.E.S. National North Coast Unit 21 during her lifetime. On February 15, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harry W. Harris at 1 st Christian Church on Wick Ave. and enjoyed 50 years of loving marriage until his death in November, 1996.

Betty was a co-leader of the first Brownie and Girl Scout troop of Christ Church, a wonderful mother of twins, and member of the women's Organization and bible study Sarah-Ester Circle. She was also president of CCL, Child Conservation League – a child study group, for many years. In addition, she was an avid golfer for 30 years at the former Leffingwell Hills Country Club which is now Diamondback golf course. Betty was very patriotic, proud to be an American, and served many years as a presiding judge for election day polls.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Harry, twin son Richard, and two sisters, Marjory Lytle and June Colwell. Betty is Survived by her Dedicated daughter, Suzanne and son –in-law Larry Brown of Canfield, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home 4700 Market St. Boardman, Ohio, 44512. And Saturday Morning prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Fox Funeral Home Celebrated by Pastor Leo Feher.
