Obituary

Betty Jean Shutrump CANFIELD - Prayers will be Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St Patrick's Church in Youngstown, celebrated by the Rev. Edward P. Noga. Betty Jean Shutrump passed away on May 31, 2013, surrounded by her beloved family. Betty Jean was born April 4, 1922, the oldest of two children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Shutrump Jr.; her daughter, Kathy Ann; and her parents, Nadyne Kane and John Nierlich. Betty Jean is survived by her children, daughters Nadyne Lee and husband Joe, Susan Kelty and husband Jim, daughter Meredythe (Tina) and Jim Miller, son Fred C. Shutrump III, daughters Becky Shutrump, and Bonnie Salata and her husband, Rick; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Nierlich and wife Kay. She also leaves behind many wonderful memories in the hearts of her family. As a child, Betty Jean dreamed of becoming a devoted wife and mother. She believed that motherhood was the highest calling. She was a 1939 graduate of South High School. Betty was an avid traveler and a philanthropist. Her favorite charities were St. Jude's Foundation and Hospice. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a lifetime member of the Youngstown Club. Her family called her sister, mother, mother-in-law, and wife but they also called her "friend." She was a pillar of support to her chosen family - the women whom she called her friends. Betty accomplished her life goal. She was a faithful wife and loving mother. She raised six children who dearly loved her. "Take care of each other and love each other. Family is the most important," she said. And now, after 91 years of love, laughter, adventure, and giving to others, God called Betty home. All who knew Betty Jean Shutrump and her family are invited to attend a Prayer service in her honor at the Fox Funeral Home on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Please honor Betty's memory by making contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Foundation, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 and Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
