Obituary

CARL A. WERNER, 83 Prayers will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Church for Carl Anthony Werner, 83, who passed away Thursday afternoon at Beeghly Oaks Nursing Center. Carl was born May 28, 1929 in Youngstown, a son of Alfred H. and Edna Schmidt Werner and was a life-long area resident. Mr. Werner was a U.S. Marine Corps. Veteran and a graduate of Kent State University where he received his Bachelor's Degree. Carl was employed at the Mahoning County Engineers and later in his career at the Mahoning County Planning Commission's Office of Economic Development until his retirement in 1992. He was an avid reader and painter whose work was displayed at the Butler Museum of Art. Carl was a fan of all sports and enjoyed playing golf. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Carl leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Mariellen Drummond, whom he married June 28, 1953 at St. Dominic Church. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Mary Margaret Werner of Las Vegas; his sons, Joseph F. (Phyllis) Werner of Poland, Michael A. (Maureen) Werner of Canfield, James E. (Debra) Werner of Hubbard, John P. (Beth) Werner of Boardman and Matthew C. (Kathleen)Werner of Clayton, NC; ten grandchildren, Ethan,Carly, Michael, Adam, Mark, David, Caitlyn, Andrew, Cheyenne, Emma Rose; and a great grandchild, Edan. Carl is also survived by his three sisters, Alice (Michael) O'Brien of Girard, Dorothy (Richard) Meyers of Cleveland, Margaret Watson of Mansfield and brother James (Carol) Werner of Warren. Besides his parents Carl was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ida Kadlek and Mary Bentley. Carl's family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff, nurses and aids at Beeghly Oaks especially Barb and Alice for all of the care and compassion that was given to Dad during his long stay at the nursing home. Friends and family may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday 9, 2012 at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman, Ohio.
