Charles " Laddie " Moreau Pickett, 74 passed away peacefully on Monday February 27, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Oh., with his family by his side . Charles was born February 9, 1943, in Phoenix Az., son of Lawrence J. and Elizabeth Ann Miller Pickett. After high school Charles Enlisted in the Navy in 1964 and then from 1965 to 1968 attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas, in 1968 receiving a BS in Biology . He joined the Air Force in 1968 and trained as a fighter pilot and later served as a combat pilot in Vietnam. He also flew KC135's for mid-air refueling of fighter planes, including SR-71's. He left the USAF in 1974 as a Captain, and became a licensed General Contractor. He then furthered his education at Lassen College from 1986 to 1989 as a Gunsmith and then again in 1993 he received his Masters in Education from the University of Idaho. He then worked as a Special Education teacher in public and private schools. Charles belonged to the Red River Valley Rats Association and belonged to a men's group in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also attended regulas AA meetings for over 30 years. He was an avid fitness and health fanatic riding his bicycle, lifung weights and eating only the best foods. He retired in the Saint Croix virgin Islands where he also loved to sail his boat, snorkel and swim. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Lara Kathleen Pickett ( Ken ) Wanamaker of Boardman, Oh., his grandchildren John and Dean Markovitch of Boardman and Roxane Pickett Rose Pickett of Prescott Az. He also leaves his sister Lauren Stedman of Terlingua Tx. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his son Jesse Moreau Pickett who passed in July 2013, and a brother David Pickett. A service is planned for May 6, 2017 in the Sandia Mountains at the 10K Trailheads in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A private family service was held Saturday in Youngstown with Deacon Paul Lisko from St. Charles Church. Arrangements handled by the Fox Funeral Home 4700 Market St. Boardman, Ohio 44512.
