Obituary

Boardman- Clara J. Ross,84 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Philip Rogers at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Church. Clara was called home to the Lord on July 7, 2010. She was born in Youngstown on August 1, 1925, the daughter of Antonio and Ida ( D'Aloise) Orlando. Clara was a 1943 graduate of East High School. She worked at the Editorial Department of the Vindicator from 1943-1954. Clara earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Youngstown State University majoring in Elementary Education. She taught for the Youngstown City Schools at Jackson, Bancroft, and Sheridan Elementary Schools retiring in 1989 after 27 years of service. Clara will always be remembered for her love of children and warm, gentle ways. She was a devoted mother always modeling strong Christian values through her prayer life and by the tender care she took of her family. Clara was a sincere friend who always listened and encouraged everyone she knew to live their faith in action. Clara was an active member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and the Mahoning County Retired Teachers Association serving as its secretary. She was also a member of the Ohio Education and Youngstown Education Associations. She was a docent at the Butler Museum of American Art from 1989 to present. Clara continued to remain actively involved with her high school friends by serving on the East High School Class of 1943 Reunion Committee. Clara was predeceased by her husband, Mario D. Ross, whom she married on November 24, 1949 and who died on October 7, 1995. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters Dr. Linda S Ross and Sandra E. Ross, brother Edward ( Margaret) Orlando and sister, Dorothy (Anthony) DiGiacomo and 12 nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Clara. Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, brothers James, Herman and Nicholas Orlando and sister Josephine Passarelli Friends may call 4 to 7 Friday at the Fox Funeral Home, and from 9:30 to 10:30 Saturday at St. Charles Church A scholarship will be established in Clara's name at Youngstown State University. Contributions can be made c/o the Y.S.U. Foundation at One University Plaza, Youngstown, Ohio, 44555. The family would like to thank the nurses on the fourth floor of St. Elizabeth's Hospital , Boardman, and the staff of the Mahoning Valley Hospital for the excellent care she received.
