Earl D. Porter, 94 CANFIELD - Earl D. Porter, 94, passed peacefully Dec. 23, 2015. Mr. Porter was born Aug. 24, 1921, to Edward and Virginia Porter. He graduated from East High School in 1941 and joined the U.S. Armed Services. Mr. Porter served as a staff sergeant in World War II and was stationed in France, England and Germany. He married the love of his life, Rena J. Carlini, on May 12, 1951, and they shared more than 55 years of marriage before her death in 2006. After the war, Mr. Porter served as a fireman for 19 years with the Youngstown Fire Department, exiting with the rank of captain. He then became owner of the Mahoning Valley Newspaper Company, which he developed into one of the largest newspaper distributorships in Ohio. However, Mr. Porter was best known for the great warmth and love he committed to his family and friends. Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward "Buddy" Porter; and sisters Sarah G. (Jean) Grimm and Francis Higbee. He leaves behind a daughter, Diane; and sons Earl D. (Lori) Porter Jr. of Boardman and Douglas P. (Karen) Porter of Houston; as well as his grandchildren, Anthony D. Porter of Columbus, Adrienne R. Porter of Pittsburgh, E. Dean H. Porter of New York, N.Y., and Sam Porter of Claremont, Calif.
