Obituary

Eleanor C. Hughes, 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 25, 2024, at Poland Village (Wickshire) of Poland, with her niece and caregiver Deborah Cardlin at her side.

She was born October 2, 1924, the daughter of the late Patrick and Veronica Finn Hughes, she was a lifelong area resident.

Eleanor graduated from South High School in 1942, she was employed by the Ohio Bell Telephone Co. and Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. Eleanor retired in 1986 from the Mahoning County Welfare Department.

She was an active volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital gift shop and R.S.V.P.

Eleanor was a member of St. Dominic Church and its Alter & Rosary Society and the infant Jesus of Prague.

Prior to Poland Village she had spent the last eight years living at the loving Black Burn Home in Poland. She was one of the kindest, most selfless humans you will ever have been blessed to have known.

Eleanor leaves her sister Marge Goodall to cherish her memory, and she also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents Eleanor was preceded in death by her brothers Patrick M. Hughes, Dr. Bob Hughes, and Harry Hughes and her sisters, Rosmary Frank and Florence O'Neil.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday August 16, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Church.

She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery next to her parents.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
