Eli Roman NORTH LIMA - Eli Roman, a long time resident of Boardman, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, after a long battle with Alzheimer's while living at Glenellen Senior Living Community in North Lima. Mr. Roman was born in Hubbard, on March 7, 1923, to Elie and Elisabeta Dafin Roman after they immigrated from Apol de Jos, Sibiu, Romania. Eli was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Rose Sirovica Roman in 2003 and his daughter, Judy Scavnicky in 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Burnich and her husband, Tim of Highland Beach, Fla.; his son-in-law, Dr. Gary Scavnicky PhD of Novi, Mich.; his sister, Elizabeth Roman and brother John Popa, both of Baltimore; three granddaughters, Tatiana Scavnicky (Mark Watson) of Royal Oak, Mich., IleanaReich (Donald) of North Port, Fla. and Elizabeth Yaekle (Neil) of Novi, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Angel Felkins, Donald Reich, Drew Reich, Luke and Mirabella Yaekle; and two great-great-granddaughters, Liliana Felkins Hernandez and Adela Reiich. Mr. Roman graduated from Hubbard High School in l940 and attended Youngstown State University. He married Ruby Rose Sirovica in l941. He was manager of Dave's Furniture & Appliance for many years in Youngstown and then became a journeyman at the General Motors Lordstown Plant and retired after 20 years of service. He was a faithful member of the Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church in Youngstown, where he sang in the choir and served as one of the church's main cantors. He also served as the Holy Trinity President of the American Romanian Orthodox Youth Association (A.R.O.Y.). He participated with other AROY presidents in establishing the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America and Canada in Grass Lake, Mich. Mr. Roman was a member of Fulgrane 696 FM Masonic Temple since 1963. Mr. Roman will be shown at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m., with the "saracusta" at 7:30 p.m. He will also be shown from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at the Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church, 626 Wick Ave., Youngstown, prior to the funeral liturgy, which will begin at 11 a.m. at the church. A pomeana (mercy meal) will be held after the funeral services in the church hall. Guests may follow the funeral procession for the burial at the Lake Park Cemetery. He will be laid to rest right next to his beloved wife, "Ruby". In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church. "Eternal In vec pomenirel (eternal be his memory)."
