Ellen Ruth Vivo, 89 COLUMBIANA - Ellen Ruth Vivo, 89, formerly of East Boston Avenue, passed away on May 2, 2011, at 12:20 a.m. at St. Mary's Altziemers Center in Columbiana of heart failure. She was a resident there for the past five years, where she enjoyed her crafts, songs and dance, and was a treat for those who took care of her. Her beautiful smile and friendliness will be missed by all. Ellen was born on Feb. 17, 1922, in Youngstown, a daughter to Giacomo and Mary Graziano Bisso. She attended the Youngstown School System in her Brier Hill neighborhood. She attended The Rayen School and upon completion she attended The Youngstown School of Cosmetology and was a licensed beautician for many years. She was married to her husband of 69 years, Frank D. Vivo, on Oct. 23, 1941, at St. Ann Church and they had six children, Stella (Bill) Betsa of Austintown, Mary Ellen Lang of Cincinnati, Carmel Brinson of Hardeville, S.C., Frank (Marsha) Vivo of Cortland, John of Youngstown and James of Cleveland; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grand children complete her family. Two grandchildren are deceased. Sterling Anderson and Mark Hanson are special family members, whom Ellen loved very dearly. Ellen was a member of Taft School Mother's Volleyball League for many years. If there was a parade in town, no matter of the weather, she was there. She was known for her great cooking, her wonderful smile, and always making people happy where ever she went. She was a member of St. Dominic Church and its Catholic Daughters of America, Bishop James McFadden Court No. 1650, where she was the chairwomen of the yearly trips across the states that they went on, she ran bus trips to Notre Dame with her husband and friends from St. Dominic's, the Royal Seniors, and different card groups that she enjoyed. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Carmel Benedetto and Madeline Biastro; and brothers Nick, Gabriel and Sam Bisso. The family will receive guests on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. at St. Dominic's Catholic Church by the Rev. Fr. Gregory Maturi and burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Contributions in Ellen's name can be given to the family or sent to St. Mary's Altimerzers Center, 1899 W. Garfield Road, Columbiana, OH 44408.
