Evelyn
Burns
Aug 24, 1920 — Dec 11, 2006
Evelyn Burns-86 Born August 24, 1920, Evelyn Louise Burns has joined her lost loved ones in heaven. Her mind was freed Monday evening, as her body succumbed to Alzheimer's disease. A proud mother and grandmother, what made life so special for Evelyn was her husband and soul mate Bob. They were married April 3, 1948, and shared many wonderful years together. Evelyn moved from Houtzdale, Pennsylvania, to Youngstown in the early 1940's, seeking new opportunities. Little did she know she would also find the love of her life, Bob, who happened to grow up in small PA town that neighbored hers. Evelyn leaves her only daughter, Patti McGovern (husband Frank) and grandchildren Mollie McGovern and Bob McGovern, all of Youngstown. Instrumental in helping to raise her grandchildren from an early age, Mollie and Bob were her pride and joy. Evelyn was one of eleven children growing up. All four brothers and four of her sisters are deceased. She leaves a sister Jean Flores in California and a sister Patricia Kokosko in Maryland. Her parents, George and Mary, preceded her in death. Evelyn worked for General Electric in Youngstown for several years. A deeply religious woman, Evelyn belonged to the Catholic Daughters and the Infant Jesus of Prague. Having a passion for politics, she worked on President John F. Kennedy's Campaign. She was also an active volunteer for the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross. Evelyn spent the last two and a half years residing at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center. Her family would like to thank Dr. James Demidovich and the St. Mary's staff for their love, care, and support. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center, 1899 West Garfield Road , Columbiana, OH, 44408. Friends may pay their respects during calling hours Friday from 4-6pm at Fox Funeral Home in Boardman. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10am at St. Charles Church, also in Boardman.
