Obituary

Gay W. Tomory, 96 BOARDMAN There will be Panachida service at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Fox Funeral Home followed by a Devine Liturgy at 10 a.m. at Infant Jesus Byzantine Catholic Church for Gay Tomory who passed away Thursday evening at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boardman. Fr. Christopher Burke will be officiating the services with the assistance of Msgr. Alexis Mihalik. Gay was part of the "Greatest Generation" , he was born March 14, 1915, in Campbell a son of Albert & Esther Besco Tomory and has been a life- long area resident. He attended Campbell High School then started working at A&P warehouse to help support his family during the Great Depression. Gay was then drafted into the army during WWII and served in the 314th Infantry 79th Division WWII service company served as a staff sergeant serving at campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, German Rhineland and Central Europe. Through his 3 years of honorable service he received many medals including 4 bronze stars serving our country. After the war he returned to Boardman to make his home, he worked for Commercial Shearing as a hydraulic department supervisor, while he was owner and Proprietor of the Park Bowling center in Niles, he also became owner and operator of Caravan Card and Gifts in Canfield. Finally retiring in 1985 as plant manager for Gorant Candies. Gay bowled in many ABC tournaments with many professional bowlers; but he loved the game of golf even more and golfed in the Mill Creek Senior league for 25 years. He was a gourmet cook, loved to travel and missed very few Army reunions over the past 65 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife the former Mary Volchko who he married on June 14, 1941 just celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. He will also be missed by his son Dennis Tomory with whom he made his home in Boardman and his sister, Lydia Hoperich of Henderson, Nevada. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Julius, Zolton and Nicholaus Tomory; four sisters, Ethel Semanovich, Rose Pogany, Mary Tomory and Margaret Grandsen. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman followed by a Parastas service.
