Gertrude "Kitty" E. McCabe, 91 Prayers will be 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 5 p.m. at St. Charles Church for Gertrude "Kitty" E. McCabe, 91, of Boardman who passed away Wednesday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown. Kitty was born September 26, 1921 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late George and Gertrude Steiner Maley and has been a life-long area resident. She graduated from St. Patrick Grade School in Youngstown and South High School. Kitty worked as the Secretary to the Dean of Women and as a member of the administrative staff of Kilcawley Center from 1959 to 1984 at Youngstown State University, retiring after 25 years of service. She was a long time member of St. Charles Parish, a member of and reservations chairperson for the local chapter of the Public Employee Retirees, a member of the YSU Women Retirees, and a former advisor for the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She was a long time volunteer and supporter of Ursuline High School. Her husband James P. McCabe whom she married April 13, 1946 died on March 5, 1997 after celebrating their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Patricia Fleming of Youngstown; her sister Peggy Smith of Austintown; a grandson James P. ( Katie ) Fleming of Youngstown and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Kitty was preceded in death by her daughter Marlene Frances McCabe; four sisters Regina Majors, Mary Francis Thompson, Irene Daus and Ann Maley. Kitty's family wishes to thank the following individuals who provided comfort and support during her final illness: Dr. Thomas Detesco, her niece Kim Obenauf, her nephews Tim and John Smith, and the staff at the Emergency Room of St. Elizabeth's Hospital (Belmont). The family requests that memorial tributes be made in Kitty's memory to Ursuline High School, 750 Wick Ave Youngstown, OH 44505. Friends may call from 3p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman.
