Gertrude Elizabeth
Monahan
Feb 4, 1914 — Dec 19, 2011
Gertrude Elizabeth (Burns) Monahan, 97 "Together Again" BOARDMAN - A gentle lady passed away peacefully Monday at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home. Gertrude was born Feb. 4, 1914, a daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth Donovan Burns. Gertrude was a 1932 graduate of South High School and went to work for Dr. Paul Mahar for 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Leo Monahan, who passed away May 12, 1990; her son, Francis J. Monahan, who passed away June 27, 2010; and her brother, William Burns. Gertrude is survived by a niece, Eve Olson of Florida; by cousins Tom and Ann Darland and Tom Jr. of Youngstown; and also by a sister-in-law, Anna Jean Ruggery of Hollidaysburg, Pa. In Gertrude, Jesus has lifted up the lowly, from being thought of as someone of little importance. Gertrude in now one of the stars in the heavens. "Thank You, Jesus, for taking care of Gertrude, your humble and devoted daughter." A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. William Rock, O.P., at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Dominic Church on Lucius Avenue in Youngstown. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, Gertrude thought it would be lovely for friends and family who read this tribute to make arrangements to have prayers or Masses said for their own dearly departed loved ones. Arrangements are by the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman.
