Harry Eugene "Sonny" Hughes, 78 CANFIELD-Prayers will be 9:30 Monday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial ay 10 A.M. at St. Charles Church, Boardman, for Harry Eugene "Sonny" Hughes, 78 of Canfield, who passed away Wednesday evening after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side. Harry was born Nov 18, 1933 in Youngstown, a son of Patrick and Veronica Finn Hughes. He was a 1952 graduate of South High School. Harry worked at Republic Steel as a stationary engineer, and then went to work at the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Youngstown. Harry last worked for Meals on Wheels where he made many friends. He was a member of St. Charles Church and a former member of St. Dominic Church. Harry was a member of P.E.R.S. Retirees and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren . He was a Army veteran serving in Korea. Harry leaves to cherish his memory his wife the former Joan Frey, whom he married May 4, 1963, a daughter Mary Ann (Tom) Neff of Austintown, two sons Michael (Julie) Hughes of Boardman and Timothy (Marcy) Hughes of Boardman, a daughter-in-law Lisa Hughes of Boardman, a brother Robert (Theresa) Hughes of Cleveland, four sisters Eleanor Hughes of Boardman, Florence O'Neill of Youngstown, Marge Goodall of Canfield and Rosemary Frank of Poland, eleven grandchildren ,Katelyn Hughes, Heather Hughes, Christopher Hughes, Amanda Hughes, Alexis Hughes, Abbie Neff, Gregory Neff, Krista Neff, Justin Neff, Jake Hughes and Jenna Hughes. And his loving dog Suzie. Harry is preceded in death by a son Patrick who passed away May 2011 and a brother Patrick. Friends may call from 2 to 5 Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman.
