Howard C. "Bud" Hargate Sr., 88 CANFIELD- - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terrance Hazel at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Church for Howard C. "Bud" Hargate Sr., 88, who passed away on Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. He was born in Youngstown, on Feb. 11, 1926, a son of Howard J. and Ethel McKenzie Hargate and had been a lifelong area resident. He attended The Rayen School and was a veteran from Merchant Marine/Air Corp. He was president of Scholl-Choffin Company, retiring in 1988, after working there for 38 years. He belonged to the Youngstown Association of Plumbing and Heating contractors, and was a director of the Mahoning National Bank. Bud was a long time member of St. Michael's Parish. He loved to travel, enjoyed boating and loved to attend sporting events of his sons and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Dorothea A. Lyden, whom he married on April 23, 1949, just short of celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. He also leaves four daughters, Carolyn (John) Jones-Calhoun of Cape Coral, Fla., Linda (Terry) Brackney of Pine Island, Fla., Susan Coberly of Boardman, and Dodie (Hugh) Haynes of Poland; a son, Howard C. (Niki) Hargate Jr. of Canfield; two sisters, Ruth Spagnola and Joanne Marsh, both of Austintown; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Don Coberly; a brother, Jackson Hargate; and two sisters, Marguerite Gracan and Jean Lathwaite. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.
