YOUNGSTOWN- JOHN J. ' CHUBBY ' SCOTT - 98 There will be a mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Christine church celebrated by Rev. John Keehner for John " Chubby " Scott who peacefully passed away Sunday afternoon at the Inn at Christine Valley with his family and friends by his side. John was born December 31, 1917 in Youngstown, a son of George and Mary Perruzzi Scott and has been a lifetime area resident. He was a graduate of South High School with the class of 1938. John enlisted in July 1942 in the Army and served his country, he was honorably discharged in 1943. John then married the love of his life, his wife the former Ann Kohut on May 22, 1943, she passed on November 14, 2010 after celebrating 67 years together. John along with his brother Patrick Scott in 1946 bought the Justruhon club, they sold the business after 25 years. John loved sports, during the 50's and 60's he coached football and basketball at St. Patrick's and St. Dominic's schools and also coached baseball at Gibson field for WKBN and Lafaro Concrete. John was working at Ace reconditioning company and was recruited by Dwight " Dike" Beede the first head coach of Youngstown State University Football . Coach Beede felt with his experience in athletic refinishing business for 18 years, John was perfect for the first equipment manager for the penguins. He served as equipment manager for the Penguins from 1972 to 1989. During his career at Youngstown State, Scott saw many changes in Penguin athletics. In 1997 "Chubby" was Inducted into the YSU Athletic Hall of Fame . After retirement John and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending there winters in Florida, he could also be seen supporting and enjoying time at all of his grandchildren's sporting events. " Chubby" was an avid cards player, he always looked forward to Monday night card games with his buddies. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Carol ( Denny ) DelBane of Cleveland; three sons Bill ( JoAnn ) Scott of Boardman; Jerry ( Marie ) Scott of San Diego CA. and Jim Scott of Sarasota Fla., his 10 Grandchildren Denise ( Doug ) Knowles; John( Chrissy ) DelBane; Melissa ( Randy ) Brian; Dr. William ( Angelique ) Scott; Dr. Joseph ( Maura ) Scott; John ( Kelly ) Scott; Jim ( Becca ) Scott; Justin Scott; Kayleen and Gina Scott. He also leaves his 17 Great Grandchildren, Tyler and Leah Knowles; Joey, PJ, Max, Sam and Olivia Scott; Andrew and Lola Brian; Gianna, Jonathan, Bella and Mia Scott; Sophie, Nick and Chloe Scott and Christian DelBane.: " Chubby" also leaves his very special friend Joe Zidian who has always been considered family. Besides his wife, John was preceded in death by his brother Patrick Scott and his Sisters Marie Diorio and Frances D'Amico. In Lieu of flowers the Scott family requests memorial donations to be made to the YSU Athletic Dept. 210 Lincoln Ave. Youngstown, Ohio. To the John " Chubby" Scott Scholarship Fund. Or to Cardinal Mooney High School 2545 Erie St. Youngstown, Ohio 44507, for the John " Chubby" Scott Scholarship. A special heartfelt thank you to Ed and Diane Reese, Melone Torres, Angie and all the nurses and staff at the Inn at Christine Valley for their love and care for Nearly 10 years shown to Chubby.
