John R. Collins, 78 BOARDMAN - There will be prayers at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Fox Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Church celebrated by Fr. Philip Rogers for John R. Collins, 78, who passed away Friday morning at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center after a brief illness. John was born May 30, 1933, in Youngstown, a son of Veronica (Sullivan) and Joseph Collins and has been a lifetime area resident. He was a graduate of East High School graduating in 1951. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 being honorably discharged. He was employed by the New York Central /Penn Central / Conrail as a brakeman/ conductor for 41 years retiring in1995. He was a legislative representative, advocating on behalf of the railroad workers. He was a local chairman, representing railroaders for 30 years and was a member of the United Transportation Union. John was a member of St. Charles Church. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Patricia Boughner , whom he married August 22, 1953 after celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary. He will also be missed by two daughters, Darlene Halloran and Trish Collins both of Poland; a son John (Linda) Collins of Akron; grandchildren, Heather (Robert) Harrison, Jim Halloran, Joann Collins, and Meredith Collins; and a great-grandson, Justin Halloran. He is also survived by his sister, Maureen Jones and brother, Gene Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jerome, Donald, Kevin, Gerald, Eddie and Tommy Collins and his sister, Noreen Berrringer. In lieu of flowers, the family request any memorial donations be made in John's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St. Boardman, Oh 44512 or their favorite charity. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 5p.m. Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
