John J.
Guerriero
Apr 4, 1930 — Feb 22, 2017
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father James Korda at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Christine Church, for Dr. John J. Guerriero, 86 of Boardman, who passed peaceably on Wednesday, February 22, with family by his side. John always said that God was good to him and he was grateful that He gave him wonderful parents, Tony and Elsie. They adopted John when he was one and a half years old, and he spent his life trying to make them proud. John grew up by Pyatt Street Market on the south side, and attended South High School. Upon graduation, he was awarded a football scholarship to Columbia University. John graduated in 1954 and was commissioned an Officer in the United States Navy, which allowed him to travel the world. John was accepted to the Ohio State School of Optometry, and was an Optometrist for 54 years in Cornersburg. He referred to his patients as dear friends. Football, tennis and singing were a big part of John's life. He owned the Donut Oven Restaurant where he spent many hours having coffee with close friends. "Thank You." John said that his real life began when God gave him six beautiful daughters and twelve grandchildren. Linda Strub and grandsons Kevin (Laura) and Eric (Melissa); Cheri Guerriero and granddaughters Lindsey and Kayla; Nancy Kurko, granddaughter Nicole (Josh) and pal "Tank"; Donna and husband, Jeff McAuley and grandchildren Bonnie, Kimberlee, Amanda and Jeffrey; Maribeth and husband, James Moore and grandson Thomas (Bree); Kim Boccia and granddaughters Bailey and Carly. And the best for last – his great-granddaughter Scarlette Guerriero. He also leaves two nephews and a niece John Kizar (Linda), daughter Mariruth; Dr. Ron Kizar, son Jake and daughter Roni Lyn; Betty Sitnick (Bill), daughter Ann Julie and Ruth Ann. Besides his father and mother, John was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Kizar and her husband John and his son-in-law, Robert Strub. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 3rd at Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, and also at 10 am on Saturday, March 4th (prior to 11 am Mass) at St. Christine Church on S. Schenley Avenue. In lieu of flowers, John would be honored if donations would be made to the Fidelity Brokerage Services, LLC for his great-granddaughter Scarlette Guerriero. Please send in care of Lindsey Guerriero, 120 E. 34th Street, Suite 7K, New York, NY 10016.
