Obituary

BOARDMAN- John L. Kurtz, 92 There will be a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church for John L. Kurtz, 92 who passed away Thursday morning at Assumption Village. John was born February 17, 1921 in Columbiana, a son of the late John and Cora Smith Kurtz and has been a life-long area resident. He graduated from Columbiana High School with the Class of 1938 and then Youngstown College. He was a veteran from the United States Army where he worked as a flight engineer. John worked as a General Forman in the blast furnace at U.S. Steel until retiring in 1978. He was a long time parishioner of St. Charles Parish and belonged to their over 55 Club and St. Vincent DePaul. John loved to travel, visited all the States and most destinations throughout the world. His wife the former Florence H. Macchione whom he married on March 25, 1944 died on May 30, 2008 after celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary. He also is preceded in death by his brother David Kurtz; and two sisters, Lula Bauman and Ruth Mercer. He will be missed by several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Church prior to the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made in John's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St. Boardman, OH 44512.
