John J. Magrini, 77 BOARDMAN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Philip Rogers at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Charles Church in Boardman, for John J. Magrini, 77, who passed away Saturday morning. John was born May 8, 1934, in Youngstown, a son of John and Pearl Berry Magrini. He was a 1952 graduate of East High School and was the editor for the school newspaper. John worked at Ohio Bell for 31 years, then went to work for EDS for seven years, and then became a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker. In the early 1960s, he was part owner of Landsdowne Airport. He was a member of St. Charles Church, the Ohio Bell Choir, the Telephone Pioneers of America, Lake Milton Boat Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles 3298, and was secretary for the Communication Workers of America (CWA Local 4300). John volunteered his time for Beeper Baseball for the Blind and for the Infant Hearing Assessment Program at St. Elizabeth Health Center. He charted the route for the 1984 Summer Torch Relay, from the Ohio Pennsylvania border through Youngstown and then on to Warren. John served in the Air Force as a pilot from August of 1956 to December of 1957, and then transferred to the Air Force Reserves until 1962. John was a avid boater, enjoyed golfing, skiing, traveling and fishing. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Loretta J. Brayer, whom he married Feb. 15, 1958; two sons, John J. (Melanie) Magrini III of Powell and David D. (Kerry) Magrini of Avon, Conn.; a daughter, Lisa J. (Brian) Hughes of Boardman; six grandchildren, Jessica J. Hughes of Canfield, W. Michael Hughes of Canfield, Margaret Dean Magrini of Avon, Joseph Thomas Magrini of Powell, Daniel Kennedy Magrini of Avon, and Robert Kennedy Magrini of Avon. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Armand and Paul and a sister, Ermenia. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Church.
