John Francis McCarthy Jr., 86 BOARDMAN - There will be a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fox Funeral Home, Boardman officiated by Pastor Dave Fishback for John Francis McCarthy Jr., 86 who passed away Saturday evening at Vibra Hospital after a long illness. John was born November 22, 1927 in Youngstown a son of John F McCarthy Sr. and Helen Jones McCarthy and has been a lifelong area resident. John was a Korean War veteran. He graduated from South High School and was a 1950 graduate of the Cleveland College of Mortuary Science. John began his career at the Gordon-Shaidnagle-Hollinger Funeral Home in Massillon, and in 1962 moved back to Youngstown to work for the Davis- Velker Funeral Home in Boardman. He was a member of the Curbstone Coaches, American Legion Post #15, Greenford Christian Church, Tri-County Funeral Directors Association and Ohio Funeral Directors Association, where he received an award for 50 years of dedicated service to his profession. John was an avid reader of sports books, magazines and newspapers. He will be greatly missed by his wife Mary Lou Sarver McCarthy, whom he married April 27, 1968; a nephew Robert A. Polosky and great nephew James A. Polosky. Besides his parents, John is preceded in death by a brother David J. McCarthy, two sisters Rachel Polosky and Margaret Rogers and a niece Sharyn Polosky. The family wishes to thank Dr. Nash , the Staff of St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Boardman; Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman; and Vibra Hospital for the care and kindness that they showed to John.
