John M. Schindell, 87 CHERRY HILL, N.J. - On Feb. 2, 2015, at the age of 87, John M. Schindell passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Beverly (Mae Hall) for 62 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their daughters, Lynn Farmer (Bill), Karen Whitney (Ken), Judy Diamond, and Sandra Biedebach (Michael); eight grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; his beloved sisters, Lynn Koeble (Fred), and Rene DeSantis (Ron); brother William Edward (Leah); brother-in-law Jim Moon (Eleanor Schindell).; beloved sister-in-law Laura Schindell (Ray Schindell); sister-in-law Rene Yozwiak (Jim); several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eleanor; brothers Ray and Henry Schindell; and sisters Lee Kohn and Eleanor Moon. For 51 years, Mr. Schindell worked in and with the primary steel producing industry, first with the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co., then with FEMCO Inc., and then within his representative, consulting and distribution business. He was the retired owner of Schindell Associates Inc., PACE Engineering Corp., and Brex Corp. Mr. Schindell grew up in Youngstown, graduated from Scienceville High School, and attended Youngstown College on the U.S. Navy V-12 program. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Rena Mercedes, New London, Conn., and Annapolis, Md. He was discharged from Annapolis in 1946. In 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly M. Hall. He and Beverly celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past November. Mr. and Mrs. Schindell were ardent sailors, owning a Bristol 35 sloop and sailing the New Jersey coastal waters and the Chesapeake Bay for 20 years. They had also traversed the inland waterway to Florida, sailed down to the Florida Keys, sailed the Grenadines, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, and the western Greek Isles, and spent a week on a canal boat in France. He was the Commodore of the Rotary Yacht Squadron, and the Delaware Valley Sail Club, and was a life member of the Joshua Slocum Sailing Society. He was a life member of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers and the Association for Iron and Steel Technology, and a member of the institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masonic Sulgrave Lodge F&AM, and the CARA Irish Society. Mr. Schindell has donated his body to science. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman. Calling hours begins at 2 p.m., with the service following at 3 p.m.
