Obituary

POLAND – There will be prayers at 9:15 a.m. Friday May 4, 2018 at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 :00 a.m. celebrated by The Rev. Msgr. Peter Polando at St. Columba Cathedral for Joseph "Red" Slipenchak, 95, who passed away Saturday, April 28 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Poland.

Joseph was born December 27, 1922 in Campbell, a son of Frank and Catherine Kass Slipenchak and has been an area resident all his life.  A 1941 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, he worked as a beauty supply salesman as well as for the City of Youngstown Community Development Agency as project coordinator, retiring in 1986.

Red was a longtime member of St. Columba Cathedral, was an Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 565, chapter #18.  He was a faithful Christian who lived by the Golden Rule.  He never ever had a bad word to say about anybody. He was kind, considerate and a gentleman.  He endeared himself to all who knew and loved him. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his cousins Jane Nugen, Marilyn (Michael) Carbone, Kathy (Daniel) Pavlansky, Elizabeth (James) Gesacion, nephews Nicholas (Connie) Semonza and Greg Martin, and his extended family the Malys'.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a brother Adam Slipenchak, two sisters, Mary Slipenchak and Helen Valosky, and niece Patricia Martin.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, at the Fox Funeral home, 4700 Market Street, Boardman.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sunrise Assisted Living of Poland for their care of "Red", as well as Hospice of the Valley, especially Darlene and to his friends at the Walnut Grove Condo Association.
