Joseph V. Sobnosky, 83 POLAND--Joseph V. Sobnosky, 83, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 in his home surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 10, 1924 to Joseph V. and May (Narey) Sobnosky, the fourth of their eight children. He lived his life in Youngstown, attending St. Anne's grade school and Ursuline High School where he graduated in 1942. During World War II he served his country in the Merchant Marine Service, accompanying troop and material convoys in the Pacific, Mediterranean and Middle East War Zones. At the end of the war he served in the U.S. Army in occupied Japan as an agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps. On August 25, 1948 he married Mary Teresa (Tess) Sullivan, who he had met in New York during the war, at St. Anne's church in Doniphan, Nebraska. He attended Youngstown College where he studied botany and biology, and worked for the A&P in Youngstown and Sparkle Market in Columbiana. After retiring, he worked at Frank's Pet Store in Girard, Ohio. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 3538. Joe is survived by his seven children: Terry Sobnosky, Cleveland, Ohio, Joe (Carol) Sobnosky, Waldorf, Maryland, Will (Jill) Sobnosky, Youngstown, Ohio, Matt Sobnosky, Brooklyn, New York, Rich (Carole) Sobnosky, Boardman, Ohio, Brian (Debra) Sobnosky, Denver, Colorado, Ellen (Tom) Wanamaker, Boardman, Ohio; his seven grandchildren, Renee, Terri, Lisa, Jennifer and Michael Sobnosky and Rick Wanamaker all of Boardman, Joe Sobnosky, Washington, D.C. and Emma Sobnosky, Denver, Colorado; and his two great-grandsons A.J. and Danny Montgomery, Boardman. In addition to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren he leaves his sisters Audrey Dagan of Girard, Ohio and Dorothy Kruger of Hubbard. His wife, Tess, preceded him in death, as did his sisters Mary Louise Reese and Ruth Kossick, and his brothers Edward, Donald and Robert Sobnosky. Friends may call at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman, Ohio from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, November 23. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Luke Church in Boardman, where he was a long time member and usher, at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 24. During his life Joe was dearly loved and in death he is sadly missed by his family and his many friends.
