Obituary

Rev. Joseph Triano SSP Rev Joseph Triano, age 79, passed away at the Angela Hospice in Livonia Michigan on September 9, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Society of St. Paul Chapel in Ellsworth Ohio on Thursday, September 13th at l0 am. Visiting hours will precede the service from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Born on July 4, 1928 in Mt. Vernon New York. He was the tenth of 4 brothers and 7 sisters born to Gaetano and Isabella Triano. He entered the Society of St Paul in 1949 at Staten Island NY. He had his primary religious and theological training at the Society's Canfield location and in 1959 was ordained a priest for the Society at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown. The Society of St Paul is a religious congregation of priests and brothers that specializes in media ministry. It is located in 30 countries and is well known for its work in publishing, radio, television and the internet. After his ordination, at the recommendation of Blessed James Alberione, the founder of the Society of St. Paul, Rev. Triano studied Pastoral Theology in Rome for one year. He then returned to New York where he earned a BA and MA in Education from Fordham University. While stationed at the Staten Island community he served as formation director, coordinator of Alba House Books and local superior during a major building and expansion period for the community. In 1969 he was appointed director of the United States Province of the Society of St Paul at Derby New York. He held this position until 1980 when he was transferred to the Dearborn, MI community. In Michigan, he was a tireless promoter of the Society of St. Paul's media center and parish exhibits of books, media and religious articles. He worked diligently in the parishes becoming a very beloved preacher and administer of the sacraments. He was a noted spiritual guide and confessor. He was respected and loved by his fellow religious in the Society of St. Paul and will be truly missed loved by all who knew him.
