Katherine Kourebis passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2006 after a brief illness. Born in New York City on August 2, 1918, the daughter of George and Helen Giakas, she was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, James, exactly 19 years prior, on January 1, 1987. Additionally, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Theodore and Paul Giakas. Mrs. Kourebis is survived by her sister, Nina Hondas, of Los Angeles, California, and by many loving nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday, January 6, at 1:00pm at Saint John Greek Orthodox Church. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mrs. Kourebis's memory to the John Wayne Cancer Research Institute, 2200 Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica, California 90404.
