LaVerne Louise (Beil) Hager, 102 STERLING HEIGHTS, MICH. - Mrs. LaVerne Louise (Beil) Hager, 102, died of natural causes on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014. Her husband, Howard, whom she married in 1939, died on Aug. 5, 1982. Mrs. Hager was born July 1, 1912, in Youngstown, a daughter of Clara (Sell) and John Beil. She leaves two daughters, Diane (Robert) Radtke of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Beverly (George) Wilson of Nashville, Tenn. Mrs. Hager also leaves four grandchildren, R.J. (Arlene) Radtke of Houston, David (Hisa) Radtke of Kusatsu, Japan, George T. Wilson of Allentown, Pa., and Sharnae (Dan) Weist of North Las Vegas. She also leaves seven great-grandchildren, Laina and Noah of Kusatsu, Japan, Elise, Arianna, and Raymund of Houston, and Jocelyn and Makayla of North Las Vegas. Mrs. Hager's four siblings, Herbert Beil, Leona Donahue, Florence Aey, and Virginia Conroy, all of Youngstown, predeceased her. Mrs. Hager graduated from South High School in Youngstown and Kent State University in Kent. She taught in the Youngstown School System for many years before moving to Grosse Pointe, Mich., where she taught at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in St. Clair Shores, Mich., for more than 10 years. After retiring in 1974, Mrs. Hager and her husband moved to Naples, Fla. She returned to Youngstown in 1982 and moved to Michigan in 2004, where she continued her many activities until her death. Mrs. Hager was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, St. Michaels Duplicate Bridge Club, St. Charles Mission Club, the Women's Elks Club of Michigan, and Valley Golf Club. A Memorial Mass will be said at St. Charles Catholic Church on Saturday, June 27, at 11 a.m. Donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
