Lois T. Tucker Rayburn, 97 BOARDMAN - Lois T. Rayburn, 97, died Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Shepherd of the Valley, after a short illness. She was born July 10, 1918, in Warren, daughter of Carroll Viets Tucker and Helen Ryan Tucker. Lois graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, in the January 1935 class. She attended Wayne State University in Detroit, and graduated from Flora Stone Mather College/Western Reserve University in Cleveland in 1939 with a Bachelor's of Arts in English. On Oct. 28, 1939, Lois married John E. Rayburn in Ludlow, Ky. Lois and John lived in Mesopotamia in Trumbull County, where Lois taught elementary grades then later in Damascus in Mahoning County. In 1951 they moved to North Jackson, where Mr. Rayburn was the superintendent of Jackson-Milton Local Schools. In the early 1970's they moved to Canfield, then later to Boardman. From the early 1960's until her retirement in 1979, Lois taught English at Canfield High School; she also served as the Chair of the Canfield High School English Department for several years. After their retirements, Mr. And Mrs. Rayburn enjoyed vacationing in Clearwater, Fla. and Virginia Beach. Lois volunteered with the Red Cross "Gray Ladies" for several years; she enjoyed reading, traveling, attending theater productions, and was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Ohio State sports teams. Lois was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Boardman. Lois and John had six children, Thomas (Frances) Rayburn of Virginia Beach, Susan States of Palm Harbor, Fla., Nancy (Donald) Harris of Lisbon, Virginia (Robert) Lemmon of Cortland, Charlene (Richard) Badger of Edinburg, and Pamela (John) Daubenspeck of Austintown. Lois leaves seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Mills, John H. Rayburn, Victoria Lockard (Fred Rosch), Lisa (Leo)Wilhelm, Steven (Miki)States, Jennifer (Bryan) Arnold, and Ryan (Sara)Whiteleather; and numerous great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her husband John E., and son-in-law, Jack States. Friends may call Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Edward J. Fox and Sons Funeral Home followed by her funeral service. Burial will take place at the North Jackson Cemetery, North Jackson, immediately following the service. The family wishes to thank the staff of Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman for their care of Lois. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests monetary donations to the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library in Lois's memory
