Lucretia Carvelas BOARDMAN - Private services where held today at St. John Greek Orthodox Church, Boardman, for Lucretia Carvelas, who passed away peacefully Friday evening. She was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Athens, Greece, the daughter of Alexander and Matina Zachariou Cummings and immigrated with her parents and older sister to America and to Youngstown when she was six months old. Lucretia graduated with the January class of 1938, from Warren G. Harding High School and attended Youngstown College. Her husband, George Louis Carvelas, who she married on Feb. 20, 1947, passed away Feb. 12, 1976. She was a homemaker who steadfastly believed the value and importance of family. She took great pride in her ancestry and Greek heritage. Lucretia was an intelligent, quick witted individual who always showed great strength despite her petite statute. Always with a song in her heart, she enjoyed all forms of music. She was a talented pianist as a child and even performed on the radio. During her grandchildren's formative years, she never missed a band or orchestra concert. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Leo George; her two sisters, Caleroy (Loy) Chacona and Minnie Cummings; and her brother, John Cummings. She leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters, Joan Alexis (James) Fornwalt and Carol Jean Carvelas; a sister, Alfrieda Elias, all of Boardman; three grandchildren, Nicole and Alexander Fornwalt, both of Columbus and Christina Fornwalt (fiancAC. Jeremy Hicks) of St. Louis, Mo.
