M. Patricia (Pat) Gilmartin There will be private services for Pat Gilmartin, 65, who passed away on February 2, 2016. She was born on September 23, 1950, a daughter of Mary A. Gilmartin and the late James J. Gilmartin. She attended Cardinal Mooney High School and went on to a distinguished academic career. She graduated from YSU with a bachelor's degree, Ball State with a Master's degree and earned a PhD from Kent State. She taught briefly at Allegheny College in Meadville PA and went on to a career at YSU as a full professor in the Dept. of Sociology and Anthropology from 1983 to her retirement in 2010. In addition, she served two years as the Director of Women's Studies. She was an extraordinary teacher and mentor to her devoted students. She wrote for dozens of publications and published a book in 1997 that won praise for its clarity and scholarship in the field of rape and child sexual abuse, her life's work. It is used in classrooms across the country. Besides her mother, Pat leaves her daughter, Jennifer Gilmartin Zena, granddaughter Mikayla Jade Rodriquez, sister Judy Gilmartin Eckstein (John), brother James P. Gilmartin (Sheila), 5 nephews, 2 nieces and long-time friend Alexandra (Sandy) Vansuch. Pat was an animal lover and wished that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Animal Charity Humane society, 4140 Market St., Boardman OH 44512.
