Obituary

Margaret L. (Peg) Clausen, 87 AUSTINTOWN- Margaret (Peg) Clausen, 87, formerly of Youngstown, peacefully passed away Sunday, June 22 in the morning at Omni West Assisted Living. Mrs. Clausen was born March 11, 1921, in Youngstown, a daughter of Thomas and Margaret Ronan McGovern and has been an area resident all of her life. Peg was a professional dancer starting with the Billy Earhart School of Dance at 2 years of age. She performed on area stages until she was 18 years old. She graduated from South High School and married Clement Clausen on June 15, 1940 at St. Dominic Church. Her husband died November 12, 2007, after celebrating there sixty-seventh wedding anniversary. She was a member of Sweet Adeline's Chorus and the Arian Chorus performing locally. She loved music, the arts, playing the piano and reading. Peg had been in several area bowling leagues and was a member of the 4:30 Social Club. She loved cooking and baking for her family and was an avid sports fan. She also enjoyed playing cards and cribbage and spending time at their cabin in Tionesta, Pennsylvania. Peg was a bookkeeper for several area businesses retiring in 1988. She was extremely proud of her large family spanning five generations. Her legacy will fondly be remembered by all who knew and loved her. She leaves three daughters, Brenda Greasel of Ellsworth, Linda (Fred) Hash of North Jackson, Peggy (Phil) Merlo of Austintown; three sons, Terry Clausen of Salem, Clement Jr. (Nancy) Clausen of Austintown, Eric (Shirley) Clausen of Youngstown; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Mc Govern, a son-in-law, Joseph Greasel and a granddaughter, Patricia Cole. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Edward Miller and the entire staff at Omni West Assisted Living. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home. There will be Services 9:15 a.m. Thursday at Fox Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown.
