Obituary

BOARDMAN- Margaret Elizabeth Keehner, 88, died peacefully at home with family at her side on Thursday, January 5, 2011. She was born February 6, 1923 in Raleigh, NC to James and Lura (Campbell) Fowler. She married John B. Keehner of Youngstown in 1944. Together they raised five children, primarily in Akron but also in West Germany, and were together fifty-six years. In 1993, the couple moved to Boardman and enjoyed time with family, neighbors and friends. Mr. Keehner died in 2000. Aside from her parents and husband, Margaret is predeceased by her step-father (Otho Scarborough of Raleigh, NC), two sisters (Virgia Williamson of Raleigh, NC and Ella York of Sarasota, FL) and a son-in-law (Barry Reighard of Norton, OH). In addition to raising a family, through the years Margaret taught contract bridge, ballroom dancing and volunteered with the Ladies Guild of the Akron Art Museum and Summit County Board of Elections. In Akron, the Keehner's were members of St. Sebastian Parish, where Margaret was active in the Catholic Service League and Christ Child Society. In Boardman, she attended St. Charles Parish and generously supported a number of outreach ministries. An avid fiction reader and expert crossword puzzler, Margaret most enjoyed working in her garden and vacationing at the beach with her family. Margaret will be greatly missed by her children: Sr. Cheryl Keehner, CSA (Lakewood, OH); Rosemary Jackson (Santa Fe, NM); Jerry (Theresa) Keehner, Columbus, OH; Susan (Dave) Farinacci, N. Canton, OH; and Mary Keehner. She was proud of her grandchildren: Monica (Mark) Biro; Katie Keehner; Joseph, Michael and Maria Farinacci; and Angela Reighard. Margaret had an extended family of grand-nieces and nephews, wonderful neighbors, and dear friends, including her "second son" Jim Barela. She was happily anticipating the birth this month of her first great grandchild, Benjamin Gerard Biro. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at The Cathedral of St. Columba, 144 W. Wood Street, Youngstown, with Margaret's grand-nephew, Fr. John Keehner presiding. Visitation will be at the Cathedral for the hour prior to the funeral. Interment is at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron, at 2p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012. The family is grateful to MVI Homecare and Hospice and the dedicated doctors, nurses, aides and therapists who cared for Margaret with skill and compassion. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Margaret's name may be made to the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality, 620 Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44505.
