Marie A. Burkus, 83 Marie A. Burkus 83, born June Marie Fallon in Philadelphia, entered into rest on Friday Feb 17th 2006. She was born on June 22, 1922, the daughter of Alice Laukas and James Fallen. She and her husband, Albert came to Ohio in 1999 to be close to family, Marie was a devoted wife of 60 years who raised three children before returning to work- in the retail industry. She began as a cashier and became a supervisor in financial operations. During this time she mentored both family and friends in the workplace. Mrs. Burkus was a life long member of the sodality of Mary within the Archdioceses of Philadelphia. She and her husband were active members of St. Williams Parish for over fifty years. She was a volunteer in the parish school and ministered to the sisters in the convent house. For the last four years, Marie was honored to be part of the Park Vista Retirement community. She was recognized with numerous awards for her volunteer service in the community. She planned trips, concerts and managed the monthly birthday celebrations. She will be remembered by family and friends as a person with a welcoming smile, a caring heart and kind word for all. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Albert, her brother Theodore and her sister Rita. During her life, she enjoyed the love of a husband, three children, nine grandchildren and fourteen great grand children. Barbara Kintz of Boardman, Ohio, Albert and Agnes Burkus of Crystal Lake, IL and Daniel Burkus of Billerica, Mass will be offering a memorial service on Saturday March 4th, 2006. The memorial service will be at Bethel Friends Church, located at 2771 Spitler Road in Poland, Ohio. At 10 a.m., friends and family can gather to view her life through photographs. At 11 a.m., the memorial service will begin. A luncheon for all who attend will be provided immediately after the service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Park Vista in honor of Marie A. Burkus. Donations can be sent to Park Vista Retirement Community, 1216 Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44504. Arrangements are being handled by the Fox Funeral Home of Youngstown, Ohio.
